Workspace Schema Management

View schema history

The system automatically syncs schema changes from data sources, and the Admin can also sync schemas manually (see Data Source Schema Management). A workspace can view its related schema change history.

On the workspace page, click the vertical three-dot icon in the upper-right corner; the menu contains a View Schema Change option.

Select View Schema History to see the full history of schema changes, as shown below:

Handling schema conflicts

When a conflict occurs

(1) No schema conflict

  1. A table is added
  2. A column is added
  3. A column is changed (and the column is not yet used)

If a table or column is added in the actual data source, or a column's type is changed (and that column is not yet used in Canner Enterprise), the system detects the change. Because this does not meet the conflict criteria, the system automatically updates the schema to the latest state and does not send a conflict notification.

(2) Schema conflict

Conflicts occur in the following situations:

  1. A table is deleted in the source
  2. A column is deleted in the source
  3. A column's type is changed in the source
  4. A column name or table name is changed in the source: the system treats this as deleting one table (or column) and adding another

If a data source table has been added to a workspace, the system checks whether the workspace columns conflict with the database schema. If they do, a conflict event occurs and the system notifies the Data Steward (Workspace Owner). The Data Steward can use the shortcut in the notification, or click the View Schema Conflict button on the workspace page, and then click Resolve to update the workspace's schema.

info

If a conflict is not resolved, the related schema pages are not updated, and errors occur when the data is accessed.

When the columns of a workspace dataset conflict with the database schema, the system determines whether it is a conflict event. If so, a View Schema Conflict button appears on the workspace page, as shown below.

Clicking View Schema Conflict opens the Data Guarder page, which shows the Dataset Conflicts section and the conflict details. The Admin or the Data Steward (Workspace Owner) can click Resolve to update the workspace's schema.
