Dataset Types

The workspace "Datasets" tab includes the following types of datasets:

  • Table
  • View
  • Materialized View
  • Incremental Materialized View
  • Shared Table

This chapter describes the content and origin of each type.

Table

Use Create Dataset -> Create a Table in the upper-right corner of the workspace to add tables from a data source to the workspace. These tables are the Table type on the Datasets tab, and they give the workspace access to data source data for analysis and use.

For the steps, see Workspace Source Data Management.

View / Materialized View

View and Materialized View datasets are designed in the Analysis module. Once designed, you can find them on the Datasets tab of the workspace page in the Data Catalog module and use them in the workspace.

For the steps, see the Analysis module.

Incremental Materialized View

Incremental Materialized View datasets are designed through workspace dataset settings. Once designed, you can find them on the Datasets tab of the workspace page in the Data Catalog module and use them in the workspace. When filtering, this type is grouped under the Materialized View option.

For the steps, see Dataset Settings.

Shared Table

If another workspace shares a dataset with your workspace, you will see it as a Shared Table on the Datasets tab of your workspace.

For how to share datasets with other workspaces, see Data Sharing - Across Workspaces.

Filter

By default, the Datasets tab shows all types of datasets. Use the filter drop-down to filter by type.

Columns

  • Name: The dataset name
  • Created Time: When the dataset was created
  • Data Freshness: When the dataset was last refreshed
    • Live Connection means the dataset is connected live
    • Refresh at means the dataset is not live; the system shows the refresh time (e.g. Refresh at an hour ago)
  • Status: The refresh status, one of four states
    • Waiting: Waiting to refresh
    • Preparing: Preparing to refresh
    • Success: Refresh succeeded
    • Fail: Refresh failed
  • Description: The description defined for this dataset (see Dataset Metadata)
  • Tags: The tags defined for this dataset (see Dataset Metadata)
