View & Materialized View concepts
In Canner Enterprise, data teams can open a workspace to aggregate data into Views or Materialized Views. Views are typically used for data cleaning, e.g. cleaning up messy raw data through a View. A Materialized View takes a snapshot of the data and turns it into an application-ready dataset, so data scientists can use it for AI, BI users can refresh BI reports with it, and it can be turned directly into all kinds of data applications.
View
A View in Canner Enterprise works like a View in a database. You can turn SQL that runs across different databases into a SQL View, then join that View with other tables, and so on.

Materialized View
If you have used relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, you have probably heard of Materialized Views. In short, a Materialized View materializes the result of a SQL query, most commonly to improve query performance. A Materialized View in Canner Enterprise works like a Materialized View in a database: when you want a "pre-computed" result stored as a new table, you can create a new Materialized View.
In Canner Enterprise, a Materialized View takes up its own space in Storage. By snapshotting slow, complex query results as a Materialized View, you save the time of going back to the data sources on every query. For example, suppose you join several tables from Oracle and PostgreSQL to get business data. If this query is used often but doesn't need to be real-time, and a daily refresh is enough, then instead of fetching from Oracle and PostgreSQL every time, you can set up a Scheduled Materialized View that runs once a day and materializes the data. Any later queries or BI tools can then use it.
Uses of Materialized Views:
- Pre-compute results so end users can quickly get data in their applications
- Reduce the cost of recomputing every time: pre-compute commonly used reports with a Materialized View so later users can use them directly without recomputing.
- Automatic refresh: in Canner Enterprise you can schedule Materialized Views to refresh at fixed times to produce reports, with no manual work needed in the future.
